Three Blue Monkeys
A hand-painted bar sign photographed while traveling became the starting point for a nocturnal world of blue monkeys and oversized strawberries.
I was drawn to the sign’s strange theatricality, dark ground, and central monkey.
Rather than repeating its focus on alcohol,
I reimagined the scene around abundance.
Bottles and glasses became fruit, vines, and flowers.
The final composition was painted by hand in gouache.
